This book uses the phrase “facies hermeticae” a few times and I’ve yet to figure out what it means in the given context. Was wondering if anyone already made a list of them, visit those places, etc??
Did the translator go bonkers trying to find the right English words for the language in Eco’s book? There is plenty on the surface, but so far I’ve not seen anyone comment on things like the “metatheses” that happens throughout the book, where the narrator mixes names up.

Eco is funny at times but this book is too long. Books by Umberto Eco. See Featured Authors Answering Questions. Does it have any story line or plot or characters? I had to wait several years before I finally had the courage and fuokovo to read it. If you are not easily fooled by magical mumbo jumbo, it is pretty unbearable to read, since you can not empathise with the main characters.
